Throwback: Odyssey – Tom Dugan & Mike Aitken In Montana / Idaho

October 10, 2019

Here’s a Throwback Thursday for you to enjoy! Thanks to Youtube’s algorithm, we were suggested this gem from 2013 that we almost forgot about. Check out this old Travel Log video from Odyssey featuring Tom Dugan and Mike Aitken cruising cement parks in Montana and Idaho while rolling place to place in Mike’s Trans AM! This is primarily footage of Tom absolutely ROASTING, but Mike does have a few clips in here. This was a few years after Mike’s accident, so he was still recovering from that. Either way, this kicks a lot of ass and it’s well worth another look, or a first look if you’re just getting into BMX! Joe Rich also did an awesome job with the film work!

“We have an extra special ODSY Vision for you guys this month. Mike Aitken and Tom Dugan hop into the Trans AM and travel through Idaho and Montana to hit up some concrete treasures.

Filmed and Edited by Joe Rich.” – Odyssey

One fun fact about this video that always blows our minds is that this was the first full 1080P DVD that came out. Watching it for the first time made everyone’s minds melt since it was some of the highest quality BMX footage many had seen. Even though this version isn’t as high definition as the original DVD, it’s amazing.. Will Stroud did an amazing job on the filming and editing for this one!

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the Electronical video premiere. Time flies! We have re-upped the video in case you have never seen it.

Fit Bike Co. – 12 Days of Aitken: Day 9 – 50/50 “That’s It”

December 22, 2017

Fit Bike Co.’s 9th day of the 12 days of Aitken takes a look back at Mike’s 50/50 BMX’s “That’s It” video!

It’s crazy how many amazing video parts Mike Aitken has had over the years. Today Fit Bike Co. had Matt Beringer and Shawn “Elf” Walters sit down and watch Mike’s section from the 50/50 BMX “That’s It” DVD. This was another step in the progression of Mike where he went to work on everything brakeless. This one has so many gnarly clips that he makes looks so effortless. Hit play!

“We’re 3/4 of the way through our ‘Twelve days of Aitken,’ which is a retrospective look at Mike Aitken’s BMX career as seen through the eyes of some of those who know him best via a selection of his hugely influential video parts, and what better part to kick off Day 9 than with Mikey’s epic “That’s It!” section.

2007’s Salt Lake City, Utah-based full-length video “That’s It!” was arguably one of the most progressive independent videos to date. And Mike’s section deservingly took the closing honors. The riding in this section is the epitome of his matured style and progression. Newly brakeless in many clips, he utterly lays waste of the SLC area streets, Beringer’s ramp, and Tanner trails. So many classic clips documented on his home turf; and as Shawn “Elf” Walters says, this is easily one of, if not the, best part Mike has made. -RD

Fit Bike Co. – 12 Days of Aitken: Day 8 – Fit Life

December 21, 2017

The 12 Days of Mike Aitken continues! This time around Brian Foster and Van Homan watch Mikey’s “Fit Life” part…

Fit Bike Co. dropped the 8th day of the 12 Days of Mike Aitken and this time we get some perspective from Brian Foster and Van Homan on Mike’s “Fit Life” part that really showed Mikey’s ability to destroy street spots and random spots like water parks! Hit play!

“With Day 8 in our ‘Twelve days of Aitken,’ which is a retrospective look at Mike Aitken’s BMX career as seen through the eyes of some of those who know him best via a selection of his hugely influential video parts, we focus on “FIT Life”, which was released in 2007.

Six years after it’s inception, FIT was well-established, and Mikey was at the upper echelon of FIT’s well-assembled dream team of this era. In “FIT Life”, Mike’s part took on a more street-focused tone, and his display of power, speed and style had reached a pinnacle, as he continued to push the boundaries of his riding. Fellow teammates and legends Brian Foster and Van Homan provide some entertaining commentary about peg-less Mike, bro-cam footage, and the freecoaster generation. -RD
