In The Cut – Maiden America Tour 2019

The annual Maiden America Tour went down a little while back, and the FBM, Profile Racing, QBP and ODI Grips guys loaded up for a trip to Colorado to visit shops, check out parks and trails and more. Here’s a raw cut showing what the guys got into on and off their bikes all along the way! There were a few bumps and bruises along the way, but overall looks like it was a good time to us!

“What started out as the 6th Annual Maiden America tour with QBP, Profile racing, FBM and now ODI, took a radical turn when the van banter started to get strange. Initially a trip celebrating brands that build BMX products in the United States, and supporting local bike shops by visiting, sharing some riding time and pizzas, Maiden America, as a result of the real-time mind-bending interactive diatribe lingo derivative inside joke phenom between Gary Ginch and Eric Holladay, was now dubbed the “Horniest trip in BMX’

Held captive by their insane tail feather wordplay development were Jay Schlie, Matt Coplon, Vic Bettencourt, myself, The Leeper Bros. Seamus McKeon, Declan Murray and our driver – Stew Johnson who was being threatened with assault and mummification.
Amidst visiting Local Colorado shops like Lawson Cycles, the ever-present PUSHER BMX, the crew rolled along the highest of High Altitudes Colorado Had to offer, The Sunshine State, and the Windy City- with their catchy state slogan- Don’t mess with Denver, was no match for the MAIDEN CREW! – Steve Crandall

How BMX Grips Are Made – A Tour of ODI Grips

Have you ever wondered how BMX grips are made? If you have rode BMX for a while, you have likely switched out your grips and noticed the difference between different BMX grips from the colors, size, and design to the finer details like the rubber durometer (how hard or soft the grip is) and tackiness that can be controlled by different rubber compounds. Although a BMX grip is a simple part of a bike, there’s actually a lot that goes into the process and it’s actually pretty interesting seeing how BMX grips are made.

Here’s a video where ODI Grips‘ brand manager Colby Young gives an in-depth look at just how they do it at ODI from the different kinds of rubber to the molds and packaging. This video literally shows every step from start to finish. ODI make their grips right here in the United States and it’s safe to say they have the grip making process completely dialed in. Not only that, but ODI use 100% of the rubber they use between all of the different styles of grips they make to the packaging and more which is pretty interesting to see and hear about alone. If you’re a BMX product nerd, you’re going to love this one. Hit play and check out how BMX grips are made!

“On a very warm day a couple months ago, I took a very informative tour of the monolithic operation that is the ODI Grip factory. They literally churn out grips 24 hours a day, five days a week. Unreal. So please sit back and get ready to absorb some info with ODI rider Mike “Hucker” Clark and ODI Brand Manager Colby Young. And yes, you can win that grip package (I believe they have a few of them)…just enter a photo of your favorite place to ride and hashtag #odisummerspot” – Our BMX

Check out the new Hucker grips from ODI!

ODI Grips Mike

Here’s one we’ve been waiting to drop since we got a sneak peek look back in February at Frostbike. The Mike “Hucker” Clark signature BMX Grips from ODI Grips have arrived! The Hucker Grips use a unique two material design that helps improve adhesion to your bars and reduce slipping. The inside features a harder rubber and the outer rubber is softer with a Southern California beach theme with a palm tree and waves. The horizontal ribs give you more traction and the vertical ribs give you extra padding. Since these grips utilize two layers of rubber, they are able to do some unique color combos. The Hucker grips are available in Black with Blue, Black with Green, Orange with White and Slate with Orange color options, have an extra long 160mm length and come with matching plug bar ends.

You can pick up the ODI Hucker Grips for $12.99 through BMX Shops and mail-orders that carry ODI Grips worldwide now. Check out more color options below…

There are only a few guys who can pull off the mustache and mullet combo and Mike “Hucker” Clark is one of those guys! Here’s a little promo video for his new signature grips from ODI Grips where Mike goes to work on the trails at Oakley. This is a good laugh, but there’s also plenty of rad clips to see! Enjoy!

“It’s summer, the dirt sessions are in full swing, and ODI just released Mike “Hucker” Clark’s signature grips. The stoke is definitely high. And in celebration of the release of Hucker’s new signature girps, ODI is giving away multiple Summer Stoke Kits. Just head over to instagram and post a pic or video of you getting rad like Hucker and tag it with all of the following #huckitlikehucker #odigrips #oakley #vans. Multiple winners will be selected by @mikehucker himself to receive their own Summer Stoke Kit. Good luck!” – Ride BMX

Frostbike 2017 – ODI Grips

Next stop at Frostbike 2017… ODI Grips!

After checking out the Odyssey Frostbike 2017 booth, we moved on over to the ODI Grips booth where we got a look at two of their new items that will be available soon. First up, a Sneak Peek look at the new Mike “Hucker” Clark signature grip that is in the works. This grip is unique because it uses two durometers of rubber, allowing to mix and match colors. For example, here’s a look at the black with neon green. The outside features a rad design with waves, a Palm tree and “Hucker” made from a softer rubber material that is nice on the hands. Under that, the green layer, is a harder rubber that helps keep the grip locked down to the bars better, reducing slipping and twisting.

Here’s a look at the inside of the grip giving you a look at the harder durometer rubber.

“Hucker” carved into the grip with a palm tree logo. It’s pretty rad what you can do with this dual layer style grip.

Here’s a better look at the waves and sun on the outside of the grip.

We couldn’t give you a look at another prototype sample color that uses some different colors and mixes the bar ends we’re going to show you below, but we know there will be a certain type of rider that will be really stoked on it. But you will have to wait to see that one… Until then…

…. Here we have a look at the new Hybrid bar end that ODI will be releasing in the near future as well. These bar ends also have an aluminum cap that helps to prevent the cap head from breaking off. These are similar to the BSD grips that also use a similar design. You can find rounded edges and then on the bottom there’s a ridge that lets your bars slide in, so the aluminum cap overlaps the bars a bit to help protect the plastic plug better. These will be available in a number of colors. One again, we couldn’t show you the color that will be available with another combo of the grips above, but you’re free to let us know if you have any guesses below…

That wrapped up the new items at the ODI Grips booth. They had a TON of grips on display for all the different aspects of bicycles from BMX to MTB and more, but we’ve all seen the classic Longnecks, Roughnecks and Cult X Vans grip they make, so we figured it would be better to focus on these two items.

We’ll have more from Frostbike popping up today, so keep checking back!
