Haro – Simon Tabron “Still Alive”

June 17, 2022

This is amazing! Haro Bikes released this new Simon Tabron video loaded with dialed vert riding, along with a look at his battle to get back on the bike after suffering a heart attack, stroke and coma! Fortunately Simon pulled through, and it looks like he’s back to absolutely CRUSHING IT despite the odds of that being fairly low! Hit play because this is too good to miss.

“We’ve been following this guy since the very early days of DIG after watching him kill it at the very first Backyard Jam in Hastings back in 1991, a couple of years before we even had our magazine up and running. Halfway through making this video for Haro, Simon suffered a heart attack, stroke and fell into a coma. The fast that he’s still alive is incredible enough, let alone the fact that he’s shredding as hard as ever.” – DIG

“This all started as a tribute to vert riding from one of its beloved BMX sons, Simon Tabron. For over two decades, Vert riding took Simon all over the world and became a way of life, a means to a living. And looking back on it all, Simon wanted to film something specifically dedicated to BMX and Vert Riding, the thing that gave him so much over the years.

But LIFE had other plans.

Shortly after starting this project, Simon would suffer through a series of life threatening events that would call into doubt his ability to ever ride a bike again, ride BMX again, ride VERT again.

But true to the very nature of a Vert Riders, a breed that finds joy in what others find outright terrifying. Simon was not held back by a heart attack, a stoke, or even a coma. Simon picked himself up off the flatbottom of life and a year later was back on the deck for another run.

Simon Tabron is STILL ALIVE.” – Haro Bikes

GT X Simon Tabron Benefit Auction

October 2, 2020

GT Bicycles Simon Tabron Fundraiser

To help Simon Tabron out after suffering a life changing heart attack followed up with a stroke, GT Bicycles have announced an auction with proceeds going to Simon’s recovery fund! They have two limited edition Gary Turner frames, bars and fork kits with a few other goodies included up for auction RIGHT HERE! The bidding starts out at $500 and obviously the higher it goes, the more can be done to help out Simon! Check out more details below. You can also donate on the GoFundMe Page if you don’t have those kinds of funds right now.

“In early September a friend of everyone here at GT was struck down with a life-changing health emergency – our good friend Simon Tabron suffered an extremely rare double-trauma, first a major heart attack and then almost immediately afterwards, a major stroke – it’s no doubt that this will affect Si and his young family’s lives forever, and they need our help.
At times like these, our community comes together and does just that. Simon is one of the good guys: a multiple world champion and X-games medallist, a showman exuding in personality, talent, and a style that just makes bike riding look like a good time. Si also spent a couple of years on the GT UK freestyle team riding in GT Air Shows during the early nineties, demoing BMX to a new crowd, before emigrating to the USA and living his BMX dream.
To help raise some much-needed funds for Si and his wife and young kids, we’ve put up for auction an exclusive GT Bicycles package: the last remaining limited-edition Gary Turner built BMX frame kits. The kit includes a made-in-the-USA 4130 Chromoly frame, forks, bars, along with a signed certificate of authenticity, GT cap, key-ring, and more – in a GT presentation box. The limited run of handmade framesets sold out in hours – and we have two available up for auction.
Help a brother out, lump some serious money on this auction, and bid big – you could win a once-in-a-lifetime GT Bicycles frame kit, AND help out a friend in need. Let’s do this.

You can bid on both frame, fork and bar kits RIGHT HERE.

You can also donate on the GoFundMe Page!

Simon Tabron Suffers Heart Attack and Stroke – GoFundMe

September 14, 2020

Photo: Justin Kosman

This year has been one of the toughest without a doubt, and the bad news keeps rolling in. We just got word that Simon Tabron suffered a heart attack, and then a stroke a few days later. Simon is in the hospital battling it out and doctors are working hard to figure out what’s going on. There has been a GoFundMe Page setup to help Simon and his family out with the medical bills that are piling up. This is definitely a tough time and they could use your help. If you have a few dollars to spare, donate if you can. If you don’t, you can help spread the word by sharing this LINK.

“Hello everyone. My name is Chad Kagy and my dear friend Simon Tabron is in need of our support.

Simon Tabron is a beloved 46-year-old husband, father and decorated pro-BMXer, having earned 8 World Championship Titles and 20 X Games medals. On September 7, 2020 his family’s world was shattered when he suffered a cardiac arrest and, days later, a stroke. As we write this, Simon has been moved from ICU on life support to neurological division as doctors race to understand the cause of these catastrophic events and the long term effect they will have on Simon’s ability to speak, walk, and work.

This devastating blow comes on the heels of an already difficult season in his family’s life. Just last January, after being diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy (terminal heart failure) and spending nearly a year in and out of hospitals, Simon’s 5 year-old daughter Scarlett received a life-saving heart transplant. Though Scarlett is thriving today, the family continues to be faced with the emotional and financial impact of her fight, less than two years ago.

At the moment we have more questions than answers and will update everyone whenever possible. We will post updates through this GoFundMe page to keep communication consistent and accessible.

The goal for this Go Fund Me is raising money to handle things such as a meal delivery service and day-to-day expenses that will allow Shanna to focus on Dylan & Scarlett through these challenging times. The Tabrons have a long road ahead of them and the medical bills will quickly add up so all donations will assist the Tabrons with daily life and medical bills.

Thank you in advance for your help during these challenging times.” – Chad Kagy

“Range of Motion” – Full Video

May 5, 2019

It looks like Echoboom Sports got their hands on the rights to upload the full “Range of Motion” video that Ride BMX released back in 2009 and features a seriously stacked list of riders that you’ll definitely recognize even though this video is 10 years old! Not only that, but Darryl Tocco handled the filming and editing for this one, so you already know it kicks a ton of ass. Hit play and take this all in!

“Ride BMX breaks down the barriers with Range of Motion. This feature film filmed and edited by Darryl Tocco showcases some of the best riders of today and tomorrow. ROM travels across the U.S. to meet up with Dennis Enarson, Tony Hamlin, Sergio Layos, and Dave Dillewaard to cover parks, dirt, and street riding. And since there’s a lot of ground to cover, Ride BMX fills in the blanks with Simon Tabron, Drew Bezanson, Darin Read, Ryan Wert, Cory Nastazio, Mike “Hucker” Clark, Luke Parslow, Adam Baker, Garrett Reynolds, Rob Wise, Tony Neyer, and Sean Sexton. Ride BMX doesn’t leave any stone unturned with Range of Motion and it will open your eyes to what’s possible.” – Echoboom Sports

Final Results

2. Simon Tabron
3. Dennis McCoy

“Vert finals at X Games 2016 is a wrap. The top three spots were held down by Jamie Bestwick, Simon Tabron, and Dennis McCoy—all dudes over 40 years old. How wild is that? Also, both of Jamie’s run’s broke into the 90s,Dennis pulled a 900 in his first run, and Zack Warden took a hard crash trying a flair bikeflip on the third wall of his first run. Vert riders are the modern gladiators of BMX.” – Ride BMX

Vert Is Alive

March 11, 2016

More BMX Videos

We don’t see a ton of footage from vert ramps unless the X-Games are going on or somebody is having a session at Woodward. But, that doesn’t mean it’s dead by any means. Here’s a few of vert’s finest having a super good session on Tony Hawk’s private vert ramp! So good.

“While you may not experience it every single day, vert riding is alive and well in 2016. And, believe it or not, it doesn’t just go down at corporate contests and random demos. While it’s not limited to just these three, Zack Warden, Simon Tabron, and Mykel Larrin ride vert multiple times a week simply for the love of the big U-shaped ramp. These guys continue to push themselves and progress regularly, all while having a damn good time. We caught up with the guys to take a look into one of these sessions and check out the madness firsthand. Believe it or not, this all went down on a weekday morning.

Big thanks to Tony Hawk for welcoming us into his lair and consistently producing fun video games. Cheers, Birdman!
