The other day it was announced the Jeff DuPaul would be taking over the role of Team Manager for The Take. For those of you firmiliar with either of those names, you would realize they make a pretty good team. I’ve known Jeff for quite a while and I feel like the brand will be making some real big changes with his presence. We decided it would be a good time for an On the Horizon to talk about some of these big changes. So, let’s see what’s going on with The Take…

On the Horizon: Animal
Photo: Rob Dolecki
A little over a year ago now, I did an On the Horizon with Animal. In that time, it seems like Animal has had some big changes from products, to the expansion of Skavenger, the dvd, moving to a new building in the works, and more. I figured after Interbike this year that it might be a good time to hit Ralph Sinsi with some questions about what’s going on over there these days and this is what he had to say…
On the Horizon: Savakas
I was first introduced to Savakas through DIG when Fred posted up a few shots of the shirts they produce. Shortly after, Mark Noble put James Weston (Owner of Savakas) in touch with me. It’s no doubt that I had been interested since the fashion side of BMX has caught my attention quite a bit the last year or so. I was interested what Savakas was all about and I lined up this On the Horizon with James. So, check out what the brand is all about already!
On the Horizon: Eye BMX
EYE Q frame
Last winter during Frostbike I had come across Erik Engstrom and the EYE BMX booth. The new brand that was being brought in from VSI products (Sinz, THE, Intense, Vigor, etc.). At the time it was just starting off with a few prototypes being displayed. I figured I’d give it a few months and then hit up Erik to see where they have come to since. Check out what EYE is all about, some of their products, the team, and more…

On the Horizon: Deluxe
“We test our stuff for a long time before we bring them out, and Davros’s bike has a few prototype parts on it – all the blue stuff you see here is prototype and on test now…”
It’s crazy how if you stay in BMX long enough, you get to watch brands start out and grow. Deluxe is one of those newer brands that has seen some growth since its start just a few short years ago. I figured it was due time to catch up with Mark Noble to see what he has going on with the brand these days, and where he sees things going. Give it a read and let us know what you think in the comments…

On the Horizon: Etnies
Flash back six or so years ago. Etnies was doing a team tour in their bus that made a stop at Jellystone skatepark in Warrens, Wisconsin. I’m about 15 and running a Macneil Ruben frame, wearing Etnies Ruben shoes, and sitting right next to Ruben Alcantara who is running his signature frame and wearing his signature shoes. I was so amazed that I could barely talk. That, and watching the whole team at that time really impacted me. I wore Etnies for a solid 6 years straight up until the recent chances to mix things up from some support from other brands the last two years. Needless to say, because of Etnies I got the chance to see some of my all time favorite pros ride in person, and that I’ve also been a big fan of the brand for years.
I was thinking that I haven’t bugged John Povah in a while and that made for a perfect excuse for me to find out more about Etnies and his role at the brand as well. So check out what John has to say, some photos of their new line, and then leave some love in the comments.

On the Horizon: Sputnic
About a year ago I did an On the Horizon with Sputnic. Since then, a lot has changed. The team has been mixed up, the brand is now managed by Boyd Cornell, and there are a bunch of new products. I’ve been really psyched on the way Boyd has been handling things, and figured I’d see if he could fill us in on what’s going on with Sputnic these days. Check out what he had to say…
On the Horizon: Colony
I don’t know why, but whenever I hear somebody talking about Australia, I usually end up thinking Colony right away. Maybe it’s just because it’s a solid brand from there, or because I really don’t know a whole lot about the place. Regardless, I do know that I’ve been curious about the workings behind the business for a while. I got a chance to shoot Clint Millar some questions about Colony to find out a little bit about what makes the brand tick these days. Give a look at what he has to say, some photos and videos, then leave some love in the comments!
