Scotty Cranmer’s Favorite Edit

March 16, 2018

Scotty Cranmer talks about his “Made For This” video from Fox BMX…

Back in 2015, Scotty Cranmer had a video for Fox that we’re sure a bunch of you remember called Made For This that was an absolute banger. It was one of Scotty’s favorite riding videos, and Big Boy convinced Scotty to talk about a few of his favorite clips that were in the video and the story behind what went into the clips. This is some of Scotty’s best riding ever, so it’s rad to hear the story behind this. After you watch this video above, you can check out the original video below!

“In this video I talk about my video that I did with my long time sponsor Fox clothing the video was titled Made For This and I believe it is one of the best videos that I have ever filmed in my BMX career. I put so much effort to make the video as best as I could by trying some original and never before seen tricks at skateparks and riding spots in my home state of New Jersey. I give you a behind the scenes look into the stories of how some of the most difficult tricks in the video came to life and it felt so good to be able to talk about my riding again and I will definitely do this again with some of my other videos!” – Scotty Cranmer

BMX Color App Has Been Updated

March 16, 2018

The BMX Color App is now compatible on all devices..

It has been a few years since we’ve added the BMX Color App to the site. When we initially added it, we were using a version that was created using Adobe Flash. As technology has evolved, phones have taken over as the most popular form of viewing content online and so have the standards and the way things are done online. One of those changes is that Flash is being discontinued as a standard form of media, which is why the BMX Color App has only worked on Desktop and Laptops for the past year or so. Most phones do not support Flash anymore, which was a bummer for a lot of people who came across the BMX Color App through Google or just by bouncing around our site.

Over the past nearly two years now, I’ve been working on finding somebody that could convert the program from Flash to the new standard of HTML5. We had a few people take a crack at it, but ultimately it didn’t work out. It didn’t help that we had no way to contact the original developer of the program to get some of the files we needed to make the change happen.

After a fair amount of disappointments and setbacks, I recently came across a way to get it done and decided to give it another shot and pulled the trigger, spending a good chunk of money, to finally make the conversion happen. The new HTML5 version of the BMX Color App is now up and running, which you can use in the same place it has been for a few years now — right here. It’s identical to the original Flash version, but runs on all devices. We’re pretty sure all the bugs have been found, but we’re sure there will be a few tweaks and adjustments still. The plus side to getting this version done, is that it should give us the option to do some customization at some point in the future. Whether that’s different colors or pattern options, or changing out parts, the ability to take a screenshot and display a gallery, or just getting it developed into an actual app that you can download in the store (that’s a big goal I’ve had for a long time). But that’s still a ways out since this initial update needs to recoup some of the costs before we get ahead of ourselves. So, if you are looking for a way to get some ideas for a new color scheme for your bike, you can now do it anywhere — It’s a little tricky on mobile still, but it does work.

So, that’s the update news for the BMX Color App. If you happen to notice any bugs, please let me know so that it can get resolved!
Thanks!

Now, go check out the BMX Color App already!

The Halahan Brothers “Under Your Influence” – Steve Crandall

March 16, 2018

The Second episode of “Under Your Influence” with the Halahan brothers takes a look at weekend with Steve Crandall…

If you caught the first “Under Your Influence” video with , then you know by now that the Halahan Brothers have some very good influences. This second episode, Lukas, Nathan and Shane spend a weekend out cruising with Steve Crandall who is not only their sponsor with FBM, but a close family friend. It’s easy to tell where these guys have got their positive and rad attitudes. Take a look at what they got into!

“The Halahan Bro’s : Under Your Influence

The Halahan Brothers. Lukas (15), Nathan (13), and Shane (8) got every kid’s dream opportunity – to ride with their favorite pros. Only these pros weren’t the ones you’d expect. When asked who they’d be most stoked to ride with, first up came the name Garrett Byrnes, followed closely by this guy, Mr FBM – Steve Crandall; both of whom are older than the age of the three boys combined.

Episode Two: Steve Crandall.

High fives and good times in Richmond, VA. Squeezing as much fun in to twenty-four hours was the mission. Two DIY concrete spots and Steve’s own trail’s made it easy. Spray painting t-shirts, BBQ, and fire at the FBM bus properly brought the day to a close.

The Halahan Bro’s are proudly supported by DIG partners Profile Racing and Vans.

43 Freestyle Tricks

March 15, 2018

If you like old school riding, or just creative, unique, and different riding… This is the BMX video for you!

Dion a.k.a. RiderInBlack, not to be mistaken for Rick Thorne who goes by the Biker In Black, is celebrating his 43rd birthday by digging into his bag of tricks fueled by old school roots for this new video that features 43 different tricks. Dion knows his way around a bike and pulled out a bunch of tricks that most of you young guns probably have no idea existed and will probably think is completely made up. Either way, it’s a great watch and we’re stoked on it. Shout out to Montana Ricky for sending this one through!

“43 is a mystical number for us “old-school” BMX’ers and March 2018 marks my 43’rd birthday. So, it would only be proper to release one of my most ambitious BMX videos to date – “43 FREESTYLE TRICKS – pSyCho vErSion!”. The goal of this video was to for almost all of the tricks in this video (43 in total) to be ones I have never shared before on social media.

Since its release, “101 Freestyle Tricks” by BMX Plus! has been one of my favorite BMX videos. Back in the 1980’s, I watched that VHS tape time after time with hopes of dialing every trick… all one hundred and one. I don’t think I ever came close, but as a kid with freestyle hopes and dreams, it kept me going and wanting to progress. I wanted to be like those riders in that video. I wanted to wear their helmets and uniforms and do hopping tricks in Newport Beach.

Now, as a 43 year old (and having since done hopping tricks in Newport Beach), I find myself inspired by the quirky 80’s production style, the VHS/VCR patina, the team uniforms, the showmanship and all the wonderful things 101 Freestyle Tricks was, and is. Most importantly, the tricks inspire my own modern take on freestyle BMX. I turn to these timeless gems to see how I can incorporate them into my interpretation of BMX riding – which I feel is the equivalent to leftover stew, a mix of new and old, street, flatland, trials, balance and attempting to utilize the full spectrum of the environment. In other words, I try to ride objects and obstacles in a way other riders may not consider them.

I purposely chose only three locations to film. By limiting my environment, I thought it would be an interesting experiment in spot utilization.

My 43 edit is an homage to the masterpiece which is 101 Freestyle Tricks. It was one of a half dozen VHS videos I owned, watched and was inspired by in the late 1980’s. And in a time where there is an infinite amount of BMX riding content available at any time, anywhere, on a device you carry in your pocket – 101 Freestyle Tricks still inspires me.

I encourage you – if you have never seen 101 Freestyle Tricks – to watch it before you watch my video.
