Flash back six or so years ago. Etnies was doing a team tour in their bus that made a stop at Jellystone skatepark in Warrens, Wisconsin. I’m about 15 and running a Macneil Ruben frame, wearing Etnies Ruben shoes, and sitting right next to Ruben Alcantara who is running his signature frame and wearing his signature shoes. I was so amazed that I could barely talk. That, and watching the whole team at that time really impacted me. I wore Etnies for a solid 6 years straight up until the recent chances to mix things up from some support from other brands the last two years. Needless to say, because of Etnies I got the chance to see some of my all time favorite pros ride in person, and that I’ve also been a big fan of the brand for years.
I was thinking that I haven’t bugged John Povah in a while and that made for a perfect excuse for me to find out more about Etnies and his role at the brand as well. So check out what John has to say, some photos of their new line, and then leave some love in the comments.

I’ve been real excited about this fresh issue of Dig for the last few weeks while we were getting everything put together. I’m real psyched because a few weeks back I had been talking with Ben Hucke about some stuff and he had mentioned he had been sitting on a few photos. Ben was working on an interview that kind of fell through and I wasn’t having any of that. I got the project fired up again and shot Ben some questions, and he had Jared Souney get some last pictures… like this cover shot! So incredible. It has been so hard keeping this one on down low without telling people. I’d like to thank Ben and Jared for working on this with me! So so so psyched!

Andrew has been a pretty recognizable name in the Canadian BMX scene over the last few years. From his days riding for the now non-existant Seshin bikes, being apart of the BMXfu crew, and just in general good riding. He had an edit drop recently that got my attention and I figured I’d see if he was into doing an interview. Well, it happened. I can’t remember the first time I had seen Mykel ride, or when we met even. I do know we hung out for a bit at Baco in Milwaukee, and then he partied with us in Toronto most of the time since there was a good crew from Milwaukee there. That was the first chance I really got to get a better idea of what Mykel was all about. Mykel is definitely a good example of talent, a good attitude, and somebody who loves life. I figured this would be as good of time as ever to shoot him a few questions to see what he has got going on these day, and then leave him some love in the comments!
On a side note, these photos for the interview are photos I shot in Toronto. We took about 5 minutes and he blasted this quarter a bunch of times. These photos ended up being some of my favorites from that whole trip….
