BACO-A-GO-GO 2016 Highlights

October 17, 2016

Subscribe

The some what annual BACO Jam made it’s way back to Jellystone Skatepark in Warrens, Wisconsin for another round of BMX and partying. We’re not quite sure how this event keeps happening here, but we’re fairly certain it might be the last one every time. This year didn’t have the best of weather with some misty, light rain hitting on and off throughout the day putting a bit of a damper on the contest, but that wasn’t enough to shut things down. Plenty of amazing riding went down and this video gives you a good look at what went down during the Pro jam, Front Brake Brethren Jam and Best Trick contest, before the sun went down. That’s when the fireworks started flying, bottles were smashed and a golf cart or two were tipped over (Way too much evidence below…). Check it out!

Mutiny Bikes – 2017 Frames and Parts

October 14, 2016

mutiny-bikes-2017-bmx-frames

With the 2017 product starting to land at BMX shops and mail-orders worldwide, it’s a perfect time to take a closer look at all of the new frames and parts that Mutiny Bikes have to offer to their line up! As always, Mutiny did an amazing job of creating a line that is not only strong, but aesthetically pleasing, too. They also have avoided having a massive line of products, by only creating products that they feel they can offer something of value, versus just pumping out every part possible and slapping a Mutiny logo on it. You can get a full look at everything with photos, full specs and details below! Let’s start things off with the frames and bars.

mutiny-bikes-2017-comb-frame

2017 Comb Frame

The Jeff Wescott signature Comb frame is looking dialed with a fresh coat of Honey Red paint. This frame is made from 4130 Sanko chromoly tubing with a 74.9-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 11.8″ bottom bracket height, 9″ standover height and a 13.2″ – 13.75″ chainstay length. You can find a taller 125mm Integrated, offset thickness head tube that is heat-treated for additional strength, top and down tube gussets with the debossed “Badge ‘N Bones” logo, double-butted top tube, straight gauge elliptical down tube to help resist denting, a heat-treated Mid bottom bracket, integrated seat post clamp with the horizontal cut for better clamping with less torque, a custom seat stay bridge, 6mm thick dropouts with integrated chain tensioners and removable brake mounts on the seat stay.

The 2017 Comb frame comes in Honey Red for the only color with 20.8″, 21.1″ and 21.3″ top tube lengths!

Offset thickness, 125mm tall integrated head tube. The offset thickness allows for a stronger weld where the top and down tubes and gussets meet the head tube to help resist cracking.

2017 Death Grip Frame

The brand new Dylan Lewis signature Death Grip frame has been getting plenty of buzz thanks to the past few months where Dylan really caught everyones attention at the Van Doren Invitational and Battle of Hastings contests. The Death Grip is made from full 4130 Sanko chromoly tubing with a 74.5-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 11.65″ bottom bracket height, 9.15″ standover height and a 13.7″ – 14.2″ chainstay length. You can find the offset thickness, heat-treated, 125mm tall Integrated head tube, top and down tube gussets with the Badge ‘N’ Bones logo, a triple butted top tube, double butted down tube, heat-treated Mid bottom bracket, Integrated seat post clamp with the horizontal cut to give better clamping with less torque, 6mm thick dropouts with Integrated chain tensioners and removable chainstay brake mounts.

The Death Grip frame comes in Gloss Raw for the only color with top tube lengths of 21.3″, 21.6″ and 21.8″. This frame is ideal for the taller rider or somebody who loves roasting trails or transitions without the fear of looping out.

2017 Obscura Frame

Next up, we have the Grant Castelluzzo signature Obscura frame. Once again, Mutiny and Grant came up with an amazing color for the frame. The Obscura frame is made from full 4130 Sanko chromoly tubing with a 75-degree head tube angle, 70-degree seat tube angle, 11.8″ bottom bracket height, 8.95″ standover height and a 12.75″ – 13.6″ chainstay length. The frame has the offset thickness, heat-treated, 125mm tall Integrated head tube with top and down tube gussets with the debossed Badge N Bones logo, a double butted top tube, straight gauge elliptical down tube to help resist denting, heat-treated Mid bottom bracket, Integrated seat post clamp with the horizontal cut to give better clamping with less torque, a custom seat stay bridge with the Mutiny logo and 6mm thick dropouts with the Integrated chain tensioners. This frame is completely brakeless, so there are no mounts. The steeper head tube, higher bottom bracket and shorter chainstay length makes for a responsive frame that’s ideal for technical street riding.

The 2017 Obscura frame comes in Translucent Olive for the only color with 20.2″, 20.6″, 20.8″ and 21.1″ top tube lengths available. Also note that this frame has a 70-degree seat tube angle so it makes the frame feel a bit shorter. You can learn about how it all works here — BMX Frame Geometry

The 2017 Villij frame comes in flat gray for the only color with 20.75″, 21″ and 21.25″ top tube lengths. This is a trails riding machine, but can hold up to some heavy street riding, too.

Photogallery: The Great North with Radio Bikes

October 14, 2016

christoph-werner-backflip-fakie-radio-bikes

It’s pretty crazy to think about how many photos and videos never see the light of day from team trips that brands take. Last year, the Radio Bikes team took a trip to the Great North to check out spots around Belgium, Denmark and Germany. Our friend and photographer, Aaron Zwaal, was along for the trip and ended up with a bunch of photos that never ended up making it off the hard drive! Check out the photos, featuring Christian Lutz, Basti Scweizer, Leon Hoppe, Christoph Werner, Kenneth Tancre and Radio Bikes team manager, Dave Paterson below, along with the edit that came from the trip that you might have missed!

“Christoph Werner, flip fakie in Bremen: This was the first photo I’ve shot on the Radio Bikes Greatnorth trip and 5 minutes prior I met Christoph but was willingly to easily fire out this flip to fakie for me and I was stoked on the outcome.”

kenneth-tancre-tuck-no-hander-radio-bikes-bmx

“Kenneth Tancre AKA Kenny Smash Tuck No Hander on a ghetto quarter pipe in Bremen. I was hyped to go on this trip knowing Belgium’s best park shredder would be on the trip as well. Needless to say, Kenneth’s riding made for some great photos like this one.”

free-stickers-radio-bikes

“A Bremen local hyped on getting some free stickers from team manager, Dave Paterson. No matter where you go, kids are always happy to get a few free stickers.”

leon-hoppe-rail-hop-truck-driver-radio-bikes-bmx

“Prior to this trip, I did not know Leon Hoppe, but by the end it’s great to be able to call him a friend. Here’s a big rail hop to truck driver he did in the streets of Hamburg, Germany!”

basti-schweizer-radio-bikes-bmx-g-turn

“Basti Schweizer with a G-Turn in Hamburg, Germany. Basti put in work for clips throughout the whole trip and his style combined with some nice light and a scenic background makes for some great photos like this one.”

leon-hoppe-double-peg-hard-180-barspin-radio-bikes-bmx

“This double peg to hard 180 barspin in Hamburg didn’t come easy for Leon Hoppe. One of the attempts, Leon ended up hitting his inner thigh on the top of the rail, leaving a crazy bruise that looked like a tattoo of the galaxy. That didn’t keep him from getting it done though! #fuckbarspins”

christoph-werner-cross-footed-foot-jam-radio-bikes-bmx

“Christoph Werner crossfooted footjam in Flensburg: I’ve never witnessed this trick prior to this, so I was psyched to photograph it. Combine the trick with the sun peeking through, a sick bowl and TM Dave Paterson hanging out in the back with an injured ankle makes it that much better.”

basti-schweizer-barspin-radio-bikes-bmx

“When we arrived at the Streetdome in Haderslev, Denmark, we had such a warm welcome and we saw that there was a huge silo next to the park and we asked if you could go to the top of it. The filmer and I went up this huge thing and immediately saw this amazing view! We shouted to Basti Schweizer that he needed to do a barspin. He got the order and made it happen first go!”

christian-lutz-abubaca-radio-bikes-bmx

“ With the sun fading and golden hour setting in nicely in Haderslev, Christian Lutz did an abubaca on this chair for fun a few times, so I asked if he wanted to do it for the lens. This is not something you see all too often, but cool none the less!”

leon-hoppe-360-radio-bikes

“ While cruising to the skatepark in Hamburg, we saw this huge set and Leon knew he wanted to do something on it. It was actually at the end of a line where he double pegged a similar set first and ended it with this huge 360. This sequence was also actually used as a back cover ad for Radio Bikes in BMXRider.de magazine!”

christoph-werner-backflip-radio-bikes-bmx

“Christoph Werner knows how to get upside down and this tight flip to flat at the end of the line was proof of that. I love how the red/orange from the transition works with the picture perfect sky and Christoph nicely placed into that sky!”

That wraps up the photos that Aaron Zwaal was sitting on from the Radio Bikes “Great North Tour”! Below you can find the video from the trip that gives you another look at what went down! After you check that out, make sure you get a look at the new Radio Bikes 2017 Completes that we posted up the other day! Also, make sure you hit those SHARE buttons up top or pass the link along so other people can check out these photos!

“With Summer coming to an end, and the cold German Autumn just round the corner, we took our European contingent on a one week tour through Germany and into Denmark on a quest to hit up some of the best skateparks and street spots in Europe.

With a freshly assembled crew featuring Leon Hoppe, Christoph Werner, Basti Schweizer, Christian Lutz and Kenneyh Tancre, the guys got to work on destroying every stop on the trip and did not disappoint.

Big thank you to Hartje Distribution, The Street Dome, Alliance BMX, RideOn BMX, Skatepark Schlachthof and everyone else who made this trip happen.

Filmed and edited by Sebastian Nitsche. Additional Filming by Dave Paterson and Leon Hoppe.”

Monster Energy – The Ramp II: Greg Illingworth

October 6, 2016

We have been loving these “The Ramp II” videos from the Monster Energy crew! It’s crazy how a little kicker ramp can lead to so many gnarly setups and tricks! This time around Greg Illingworth had his way with the ramp where he set it up all over the place from skateparks to street spots, bringing plenty of speed and style to everything he was able to ride! Hit play and enjoy!

“Rules are not what BMX is about. And, when you begin to subscribe to an idea that you’re supposed to do this or that while riding your bike, you’re missing the whole idea…taking a kicker ramp into the streets is a taboo in the world of BMX, but that’s exactly the point.

Let one of the most exciting, high-speed street riders take a portable, adjustable aluminum ramp into the urban wilderness of Estonia and England and see what comes out the other side. Enjoy Greg Illingworth and The Ramp II… ” – Monster Energy

He’s super positive and funny as hell, plus seeing a new kickflip variation get invented every day doesn’t get old either. I’m happy I got the chance to help document his style evolve into the fun looking jib-swag that it represents now… And all while turning pro for Fit and Odyssey.
