X Games “Real BMX” 2017 Riders and Filmers Announced

March 2, 2017

It’s that time of the year again! X Games have just announced the 6 riders that will be filming a video part for the “Real BMX” contest! Like last year, each rider will be working with one filmer to create their best video part possible. After that there will be a fan vote, and then judges that will pick the winners.

The “Real BMX” riders for 2017 will be.

1. Alex Donnachie

2. Chad Kerley

3. Demarcus Paul

4. Nathan Williams

5. Colt Fake

6. Dave Krone

We were surprised to see Colt Fake’s name pop up again for this since he had a Real BMX section last year. We are assuming he got picked to do another video because he won the Fan Vote. Regardless, we’re stoked to see what he cooks up again.

Each rider has officially announced who they will be filming with as well…

Currently out in Portugal ?? filming for an @xgames #realbmx part with @davesowerby So honoured to be a part of this event ????? @bakosphoto

As soon as we saw Alex Donnachie will be filming a part, we knew there was no way he would be going with anyone beside BSD‘s filmer, Dave Sowerby. Sure enough, that was his pick and we’re bound to see something amazing out of those two.

Hyped on the invite from @xgames to work on a #RealBMX part with @christianrigal. It's lit!

A post shared by CK (@chadkerley) on Feb 28, 2017 at 10:06am PST

We knew as soon as we saw Chad Kerley on the list that he will be working with Christian Rigal for his section. That’s one hell of a duo that always yields amazing results.

Beyond thankful and unbelievably stoked that @mikemastroni and I will be part of the @xgames #realbmx contest this year! The videos will air on ABC this June!

A post shared by DeMarcus Paul (@demarcuspaul) on Feb 28, 2017 at 10:08am PST

We’re weren’t shocked to see that Demarcus Paul will be working with Volume Bikes filmer Mike Mastroni for his section. They’ve been filming together for a few years now and it makes for a super good team.

So stoked and grateful to get invited to film a part for @xgames #RealBmx with @peteradam this year! It's going to be a fun next couple weeks!

A post shared by Nathan Williams (@united_nathan) on Feb 28, 2017 at 10:50am PST

We weren’t quite sure if Nathan Williams would go with his go to guy, Will Stroud, for his section, but it looks like he’s going to use United‘s go to filmer, Peter Adam for his video. That’s another super dialed pick for a filmer. Peter has been producing some phenomenal videos for a while now, so they should end up with a banger of a video.

Hey everyone! Super excited to announce that @darryltocco and I will be at it again for @xgames #realbmx. We are mid way through filming and can't wait to finish! coming out in June! Thank you again @stew1201 for this amazing opportunity

A post shared by Colt Fake (@coltfake) on Feb 28, 2017 at 10:00am PST

Colt Fake has announced on Instagram that he will be working with Darryl Tocco again. That’s one hell of a combination that we know will produce good results.

Super stoked ?on the invite to 2017 @xgames #Realbmx video project with @yo_navaz

A post shared by y☮guy (@kavedrone) on Feb 28, 2017 at 9:58am PST

Dave Krone will be working with Ryan Navazio for the contest. You already know with Ryan handling the film work things will be looking top notch.

So that is a look at the X Games Real BMX Riders and Filmers for 2017! Who do you think will be taking the win this year? Let us know in the comments below what your vote is now!

“Remembering Mirra”

February 5, 2017

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since BMX had lost Dave Mirra. Yesterday was the one year of his passing and it still doesn’t seem real. X Games re-upped the entire “Remembering Mirra” show that originally aired on TV and everywhere last year taking a look at Dave’s entire life. Let’s watch it again (or for the first time if you missed it last year) to remember everything great about the legend that we lost too soon.

““Remembering Mirra” documents the life, legacy and influence of BMX legend Dave Mirra.

April 4, 1974 – February 4, 2016

The full episode, which features dialogue from Steve Swope, Ryan Nyquist and Daniel Dhers, originally aired as part of ABC’s World of X Games in 2016.“

X Games “Real BMX” Coming Back For 2017

January 6, 2017

Here’s some news we’re sure will get some of you excited. The X Games have announced the dates for the 2017 Real Series which includes the REAL BMX contest once again. Above is a little trailer to get you hyped, then you can get more details below. They haven’t announced the riders for 2017 yet, but we would assume they will have different riders selected for this one. Who do you think will be selected? Let us know in the comments below!

“The Real Series returns to the World of X Games content lineup on XGames.com and ABC, beginning with the Real Ski video competition on February 15, 2017.

A forum for the world’s best riders and filmers to create premium video content, the Real Series brings together the worlds of competitive action sports and core video parts. Originally launched with Real Street in 2010, the Real Series has now grown to include six video competitions each year, with snowboarding, freeskiing, BMX, FMX and wakeboard disciplines added into the lineup.

The Real Series on ABC schedule for 2017 is detailed below:

Event / Contest starts online / ABC broadcast
Real Ski – February 15 – February 25
Real Snow – March 15 – March 25
Real Street – May 17 – May 28
Real BMX – June 14 – June 24
Real Moto – August – August
Real Wake – September – September

The six Real Ski athletes invited to compete are: Magnus Graner, Khai Krepala, Henrik Harlaut, Tom Wallisch, Will Wesson and LJ Strenio.

The Real Snow competition will follow, with never-before-seen edits from Justin Fronius, Anto Chamberlain, Frank Bourgeois, Toni Kerkela, Dylan Thompson and Jesse Paul.

Like past Real Series competitions, the video parts for each sport’s competition will premiere on XGames.com. Fans can watch and vote for their favorite, and the video with the most votes will be awarded Fan Favorite accolades. The video parts will also be judged by a panel of industry experts and the X Games gold, silver and bronze medalists will be revealed in a one-hour World of X Games show that will premiere on ABC 10 after the videos drop.

This year, Real Mountain will extend the Real Series even further by debuting a digital-only fan-vote competition featuring seven North American big mountain ski resorts. Aspen Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Mammoth Mountain, Revelstoke, Snowbird, Squaw Valley and Whistler Blackcomb will each submit 90-second videos showcasing their resort-sponsored athletes skiing and snowboarding in-bounds terrain and natural features.

The resorts will film throughout the 2016/2017 winter season. The contest will run here on XGames.com in November 2017.”

X Games Launches Park Qualifier In Boise, Idaho

December 21, 2016

It looks like the X Games will be holding a Qualifier event in June leading up to the actual X Games event in Minneapolis in July. This event will be held in Boise, Idaho out of all places, which is a little surprising since we don’t see a lot of action out of that area. The press release below doesn’t specify if it’s an open qualifier, or if you have to be invited to the qualifier event, but we would imagine this will focus more on pro riders versus random guy who shows up with his bike, helmet and a signed waiver to compete, but we could be wrong. We’re also not sure if you have to pre-qualify at this event to even be invited to the X Games in Minneapolis. Previously, riders had to be invited without a qualifier to ride in the X Games.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Check out the press release below.

“As part of the Road to X Games content series, X Games will host the world’s top athletes in a Park Qualifier event on June 10, 2017 as they compete to secure their invitation to X Games Minneapolis. Streamed live from Rhodes Skatepark in Boise, Idaho, the Road to X Park Qualifier will feature three disciplines — Men’s Skateboard Park, Women’s Skateboard Park and BMX Park. In addition to the live stream, fans can catch the Road to X Park Qualifier coverage on ABC as part of the World of X Games content on June 17, as well as coverage across X Games digital and social platforms.

In each of the disciplines, the top three medalists from X Games Austin 2016 will pre-qualify for the Minneapolis event. The top six athletes in each discipline at the Road to X Park Qualifier will also receive their invites to Minneapolis. The event is free and open to the public.

“Boise is the perfect venue for the X Games,” said Boise Mayor David Bieter. “Rhodes Skate Park is world-class and we know that the spectators, viewers and athletes will absolutely fall in love with our city – and want to come back again and again.”

“Bringing the Park Qualifier to Boise provides the X Games an amazing opportunity to serve the action sports community in a new region of the country,” said Tim Reed, vice president, ESPN X Games. “We are excited to work with the city of Boise to bring a world class BMX and Skateboard event to action sports fans in Idaho and around the world.”

“The Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau is proud to work with Mayor Bieter to bring this spectacular event to Boise,” said Carrie Westergard, executive director of the Boise CVB. “Boise’s hotels and local businesses are ready to show off our city’s great amenities to X Games participants and fans.”

The Monster Energy High Roller event kicked off the Minneapolis qualifiers, with the results from the Best Whip competition serving to qualify three FMX riders into the Moto X Best Whip competition at the X Games Minneapolis event.”
